Brian’s wife and best friend is also an accomplished photographer and acclaimed Art Director. She’s traveled the world as a successful actress, sports model and lived in Japan for years working as a stuntwoman (no, we’re not kidding, she can kick butt if needed).

Hawaiian born and raised, Malia (rhymes w/Maria) keeps the Aloha spirit alive and well no matter the workload or deadline. Malia is also a Bowdoin grad; she has an MBA, spent years as a producer and is currently The Global Art Director of Photography for Athleta (the snazzy yogawear/fitness clothing company). When not with Boathouse Studios, she is off supporting Athleta's photo shoots all around the world.

Malia is smart, sassy, creative and fun. She also serves as our resident linguist (she speaks 3 languages) and like Brian, photographs because she absolutely, positively loves to create. Malia's creativity and energy, along with her incredible experience and thoughtful insights are an amazing addition to everything we do. We think she’s pretty awesome and you will as well!

Brian and Malia own and operate The Boathouse Studios as small, sustainably built studios in San Francisco, on the coast of Maine and on the windward side of Oahu in Hawaii. Every year,, Malia and Brian support select local and destination weddings worldwide as well as unique engagement and family shoots. When not photographing or art directing in some exotic land, Malia is a passionate dancer and cook. Like Brian, the perfect day includes cruising in their VW Bus looking for surf, looking for food, looking for campsites or just looking.
